Newsletter 19

February 5th, 2010

Dear Parents,

NEWSLETTER 19

We have had an amazing Maths week which has really turned into Maths Month! Everyone has really thrown themselves into the idea of understanding money and how it can work for or against us! At the time of writing this edition, I know that everyone is so excited about the idea of the Maths Fair in the hall.

Well done to everyone who came dressed in “business clothes” today – you all looked fantastic! I particularly enjoyed Brandon Young’s impression of what a business person looks like after a meeting!

Each class has had a different idea for creating products that they can sell and the children have done an excellent job of trying to persuade us to buy these with colourful posters and flyers. Well done to Year Two for having the initiative of making human sandwich boards – great fun! Thank you again to the parents who came into speak to the children (Mr. Allright, Mrs. Gunn and Mrs. Cestone – your children were all very proud of you!) and the staff about your work. I think Miss Fiske particularly enjoyed the talk in Year Six and has taken on board many new ideas about personal finance!

Thank you also to Mr and Mrs. Vitou for sourcing really interesting information about exhibitions at The Bank of England. Older children will be bringing home some pamphlets but if you can also go to their website : click here to see what is on offer – from what I can see, there is lots on offer for all ages!

ICT Internet Safety Meeting
Miss Fiske will be holding an informative meeting for parents and carers about internet safety on Thursday 25th February at 3:30 p.m. This is for all interested parties but particularly for those in KS2. We are all aware of how useful the internet can be but, at the same time, must also realise the potential dangers and drawbacks that could be faced by our children. See you there!

Half Term Playscheme
You may be interested to know of a Playscheme that runs during the holidays. This is organised by University College London Hospital and is based at Haverstock School Chalk Farm NW3. If you are interested you can speak to Mrs. Mapanzure or contact Gill Tew on 0845 1555000 ext 3746.

Buster and The Teacher Angel
Teacher Angel this week is Miss Anstey for really stretching the children’s brains this week and helping them to have such fun learning about savings, money and business. Buster is going home with Alexander Kovacevic for being so excited about Mr. Numbervator and working hard to solve number problems.

Geographer of the Week: This week, Leila Ingram-Smith is our Geographer of the Week as she was so enthusiastic about studying Poland. She found a great You-Tube video clip for us to watch today!

Stars of the Week
Nursery: Archie Cooper for being a super star in music and being a great classroom helper, Reception: Zoe Andersen for sounding out pirate words so well and for being a good friend, Year One: Jason Man for working so hard in Maths week and using his super mathematical knowledge. Well done! Year Two: Syd Innes for being a Mathematical Super Star all week! He has been hardworking, helpful and enthusiastic. Year Three: Charles Smithies for being an enthusiastic and hardworking member of our class, Year Four: Kallum Clooney for working really hard, being fantastic with Mr. Numbervator and for looking so dapper today!
