Newsletter 13

Dear Parents,

NEWSLETTER 13

A great time was had by all at the Christmas Disco last Friday night. Having KS1 children dance away earlier is a much better idea and means that there is less congestion around the stairs. Thank you for helping us to raise £813 at this event as well as £561 for the Christmas Raffle. Well done to Tyrique Mathurin-Charles for selling the most tickets!

Magnificent Choir of Angels
I would like to thank our amazing choir and Miss Hodgson for working so hard over the last few weeks and being in such demand! They are now becoming quite well known and I have now lost count of the number of people who have complemented them to me. They sing so beautifully that it actually brings a silent tear to my eye!

This week is probably the most special as they sang in The Wigmore Hall to everyone’s delight and were true ambassadors for St. Saviour’s. Last night, they sang at the Paddington Waterways and Maida Vale Society Multi-Denominational carol service at St. Mary’s Church and they wowed everybody. They sang John Rutter’s Candlelight Carol so sweetly and will be doing so again at the Carol Service. Well done, everyone!

Miss Hodgson writes: “A busy week for the St Saviour's School Choir which included a show stopping performance at Wigmore Hall, busking at Clifton Nurseries and at a candle lit carol concert at St Mary’s Paddington Green. We've received many compliments about the children's singing, their behaviour and performance polish - well done! Here's to 2010! Thank you also to the parents who have dutifully delivered the children to a variety of performance locations and supported us whilst we sang our hearts out. It is much appreciated. One concert left: Paddington Academy 15th Dec. No rehearsal on Monday!”

Vote For Ripley!
I have entered a photograph of Ripley into a Christmas competition on Jamie Oliver’s website and I need as many people as possible to vote for him – can you help? The website address is: http://www.jamieoliver.com/christmas/competition.php?vote=432#voting-panel - we would be very grateful!!

Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits, Nits!!!!
There are quite a few children with nits and head lice in their hair at the moment and, I am afraid, that this must mean families are not checking for these pesky creatures every time you wash their hair. This is not helped by the fact that lots of girls with long hair do not have this tied back and some boys have hair that is, to be honest, too long for school.

We have also noticed that lots of children come to school without having brushed their hair! If even this routine task is not done, it is not surprising that we are having this problem. Please do your best to help eradicate this problem from our school or at least keep it at bay. Regular checks, regular combing and brushing, tied back hair and hair cuts as appropriate!

There will be no clubs next week – including football, all sports, cricket and chess. Horticulture Club will go on as usual.

The Christmas Carol Service and End of Term Arrangements
Next Friday is our wonderful Christmas Service, which will be held at St. Saviour’s Church at 1:15 p.m. This is also the last day of term and school will be finishing at 2:00p.m. Please arrange for your child to be collected at 2:00 p.m. at the church. You are very welcome to join us for this traditional carol and readings service as we celebrate the birth of Jesus at this special time of year.

Baby Items For Sale
Mrs. Cespa, Michele’s mother, has some very good quality baby goods for sale (a beautiful swinging crib, Maxi Cosi car seat, baby bag) and a Samsonite suitcase that has only been used once. All proceeds will be given to the school. If you are interested please contact her on 07972 519712 or gcestone@gmail.com

Buster and The Teacher Angel
Teacher Angel this week is Mrs. Jalali as the children are so impressed with the work she does with Gifted and Talented Maths and Science. Buster is going home with Joseph Deutrom as he gets on with everyone and is a great mediator. Well done indeed!

Geographer of the Week: is Maggie Curwin and she chose Afghanistan for us to study as the last country of the week of 2009. A little different from the Bounty Bar Advert country of The Seychelles!
