Newsletter 10
November 20th, 2009
Dear Parents,
NEWSLETTER 10
This week, has been our Anti-Bullying and Be E-Safe week and we are all very grateful to Miss Dimbleby and Miss Fiske for their hard work in ensuring that this very serious subject was delivered to the children in a fund and exciting way.
Well done to all the children who have been incredibly sensible and taken on board how serious it is to be bullied or upset when using the Internet or mobile phones. One of the most popular sites for children of all ages is Club Penguin. We have discovered that quite a few of our children are “spies” who regularly look out for any problems. Please ask them to tell you about what the potential problems that can happen when they are playing games on their computers.
Year Two have been learning about the importance of not telling anyone on the Internet their real names, addresses or which school they go to as well as thinking about how it is impossible to tell how old someone is on games or messaging sites. I have been very impressed at how sensible the children have been this week and how wide ranging their knowledge of all things technical is. Many of them have offered to teach my husband to use text and e-mail messaging!
Miss Fiske will be holding a meeting for parents to discuss the safe use of the Internet and how you can be on guard to ensure their safety when using computers.
First Communion and Confirmation 2010
If your child is in Year Three or above and you would like them to be included in the First Communion course for this year, please come to the office and collect an application form. Applications for Confirmation can be received for children in Year Five and Six. This is the same form that has been given out at St. Saviour’s Church so you do not need to have another one.
The First Communion Service will be held on Sunday 6th June 2010 and Confirmation will be on Sunday 5th September 2010. First Communion lessons will take place at school and Confirmation lessons will be held in the church.
Cross Country Runners – What a Team!
I am so sorry that I did not include the wonderful news about our fantastic Cross Country runners who took part in the Westminster Running Challenge at The Hub last Wednesday. We were very proud to hear that they were easily the most sporting team as well as the only school that stood for the Remembrance two-minute silence.
Well done to Joseph Carroll, Aaron Eastman, Maya Giulivi, Katherine Biggs, Samuel Nwosu, Theo Kennedy-Fletcher, Matilda Hindler-Lowe, Flora Capon, Ava Innes and Monty Martin-Zakheim. All the children had to run 1.5km (without stopping!) and were ably supported by Miss Patterson, Miss Smith, Mr. Biggs, Mr. and Mrs. Martin-Zakheim, Mrs. Innes and Ms McMahon. All the runners did incredibly well with all finishing in the top half of races that included 50-60 runners. Joseph came in a magnificent 2nd with Monty finishing 11th and Ava finishing 14th.
PTA News – The Christmas Bazaar
There is only one more week to go before we open the doors to this year’s Christmas Bazaar. Well done to everyone who has sent in “ingredients” for the Lucky Jars and especially to those who have brought in filled jars for this new stall. Yesterday’s non-uniform day was a great success and we have lots of prizes for our bottle stall.
All Class Reps need to make sure that the children’s craft items are finished next week and to collect your stall banner paper from Mrs. MacKay. Well done to everyone for the great ideas that you have come with this year – we have fingers crossed for the best year ever.
Christmas Disco tickets
The Disco tickets go on sale on Monday and are priced at £4 each or £14 for a family of four. We will be holding separate KS1 and KS2 discos like last year as this proved to be very popular - more news of this next week.
Christmas Raffle Tickets
Please try to sell all the tickets that you have been given and return the small stubs to the school office with the money you have raised. If you would like some more tickets, please speak to Mrs. MacKay. Remember there is a prize for the child who sells the most tickets. If you cannot sell the tickets you have, please bring them back as we can!
Wonderful Children – How lucky are we?
Well done to Rosie Watson in Year Six for receiving a wonderful letter from her Buddy’s mum, Mrs. Anderson. She wrote:
“Dear Ms. Woodford, A note to express my utmost gratitude to Rosie for being an outstanding Buddy, in every respect, to Zoe. Rosie has consistently been most attentive and caring towards Zoe and has forged a lovely friendship between the girls”.
Well done to Zachary Martin-Zakheim for being the most thoughtful person this week by thanking Mr. Higgins for putting up the great new Christmas decorations in the hall (amazing donation from Harrods and sourced by Mrs. Allright!). Mr. H. was really thrilled to be thanked so politely!
Drop-In Session
There will be a drop in session for parents who would like to talk about healthy eating or any other subject next Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. Thank you to Mrs. Garwood-Watkins who was the only parent to turn up for the special nurse’s talk on this important subject – let’s see if more can turn up for the next one!
Buster and The Teacher Angel
Buster is going home with Tony Voyatzis for being so aware of being safe in Cyber Space. He is very good at reporting wrongdoing to The Police in Club Penguin! Teacher Angel was a very popular Miss Fiske who was thanked for her amazing ICT skills and the great work she did during E-Safety week.
